That's my GoldWing -- an '81 GL1100 Standard with Vetter fairing, lowers, and bags. It was purchased in the summer of 1994 with about 80,000 miles on the odometer and a vicious grating rattle in the engine. I figured the engine rebuild would make a cool winter project.
On a whim I checked the alternator rotor bolt for looseness. It was loose; proper torque cured the noise. A full rebuild wasn't needed, but the engine could probably use a head job -- I'll maybe do that in another 100,000 miles or so. I replaced the fork seals and steering head bearings, had a small rip in the seat fixed, and I've been riding it ever since. It ain't for sale, but I will consider a trade for a GL1200.
Yup, I'm in the GWRRA: #100777.
